View the latest tips and tricks to help your makeup last all day

Advice number one:

Don’t feel like you have to apply your makeup like everyone else on Tik Tok. Find a routine that works for you; this could be through using brushes to sponges or by wearing heavier or lighter makeup. There is no right or wrong!

Advice number two:

Use primers that are suited for your skin type and only use them in the places that are necessary. For example, try to only use a hydrating primer in places that need the moisture. If you have oily skin, you may be better suited to use a mattifying primer in your T-Zone.

Advice number three:

Use the correct skin care. Use the correct moisturisers for your skin type to prevent the production excess oil. If using retinol, start by using a small amount to prevent irritation (learnt through personal experience). Gradually build up your skin’s tolerance.

Using a foundation that is right for you:

Use a foundation that is suited to your own skin type. There are three main types of foundations:

  1. Silicone based foundation

  2. Oil based foundation

  3. Water based foundation

A silicone based foundation usually contains ingredients like dimethicone and will help create a smooth texture on the skin. It can be a thicker foundation that will provide coverage and will last all day (especially in heat).

A water based foundation is as the name states a water based foundation that contains aqua or water. This type of foundation is deemed to be kinder on the skin due to it being less comedogenic. However, the downside of this is it may not provide as much coverage. As someone who struggles with highly pigmented acne scars, this type of foundation is something that I wouldn’t reach for due to personally liking more coverage.

An oil based foundation contains ingredients like minerals, jojoba and argan oil which nourishes the skin making it a dream for those who have dry skin. The foundation will stay dewy instead of drying down matte which prevents the foundation clinging to dry patches and making your makeup look patchy. Whilst an oil based foundation is hydrating, it is not ideal for oily or acne prone skin as is can worsen these issues.

How I cover my acne

A concealer pot is your new best friend. Not only does it help cover and conceal, it is convenient for when you’re on the go or may feel a pimple coming on!

My trick is to take a dense concealer brush (I personally like the Kylie Cosmetics Concealer Brush) and a concealer of your choice (I find the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer best suited for me) and dot the product onto the skin. I start by using a small amount and layer the product to prevent it looking cakey. Then I set with both lose and pressed powder to allow the makeup to stay on all day. I repeat this as many times as needed throughout the day.
